A little behind

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Well I got off to a bit of a late start with this.  I’ve been flying since June 22, 2006, logging 9.6 hours of flight time to date.  I haven’t really been keeping track, but my lesson cancellation rate is somwhere around 50% right now (poor weather).  Anyway, I don’t remember too many details but here’s a summary of what I’ve done so far…

June 22 - Traffic pattern in a DA-20 (N167DC)

July 16 - Slow flight and steep turns (slow flight is a lot of fun, steep turns made me sick) Everything in a C172 from now on
August 8 - Slow flight and steep turns again (my first flight-related vomit session, occurred a few hours after the flight rather than during the flight, luckily)

August 17 - Slow flight and stalls

August 21 -  Stalls and rectangular course

September 4 - Rectangular course, turns around a point

September 8 - Rectangular course

October 1 - This one I do remember, since it was only a few days ago.  I was glad to get in the air again after having the previous 4 lessons cancelled.  We took off around 6 PM, still light, there was a rainbow visible to the east of the field.  First I flew a rectangular course maneuver, which I actually did somewhat correctly for the first time, and then we did S-turns over the Northeast Extension.  It was also great to see the sunset while in the air, first time I’ve flown at night, so it was quite an experience.  Also got to land in the dark.  When we got out of the plane I realized I’m going to need to start bringing a flashlight.   Overall, best lesson so far.  The number of dumb mistakes I made was significantally less than last time, and I didn’t get sick at all.  I also drove home from Wings with my driving permit.  Next lesson scheduled for Sunday, weather permitting.
